主要研究领域与方向：果蝇的生物多样性，动物地理学和进化生物学。与国内外学者合作，在国外学术刊物上发表果蝇研究论文30篇（SCI论文近20篇），共记述了新北区，非洲区，澳大利亚区，东南亚及我国产果蝇150个新种，建立了4个亚属和16种组。

曾获1992年和1998年的国家教育部科技进步二等奖，2004年的周尧昆虫分类学奖励基金三等奖。

正在进行的研究项目

1．亚洲东部和东南亚地区斯果蝇亚科的分类学和分子系统学研究（04年国家自然科学基金）。

2. 中国南部的果蝇生物多样性研究（04年教育部留学回国人员科研启动基金）。

3. 果蝇的系统分类学和分子系统发育研究（05年教育部高等学校博士授予点专项研究基金）。

4．菌食性果蝇的系统分类学和进化生物学研究（06年国家自然科学基金）。
