Nurtured in the rich cultural soil of South China Agricultural University, the School of Foreign Studies was in bud the day the Foreign Languages Teaching Section of the Fundamental Courses Department was established. In 1993, the Section grew into an independent English Department which then merged with the Department of Social Sciences and the Institute of Chinese Agricultural History to form the College of Humanities in 1996. On this basis, today's School of Foreign Studies finally was established on July, 2003.

The School of Foreign Studies is staffed mainly by young people. With proper knowledge structure, the entire 141 members integrate into a team of high quality. Of them, 122 are full-time teachers including 5 professors, 32 associate professors, 77 lecturers and 8 assistant teachers. As to their educational background, 7 of them are doctors or doctor students, 80% are masters, and 30% have the experience of studying abroad. Besides, each year 8 to 10 foreign teachers will be employed to work for the school.
