| The College of Foreign Languages was established in July 2003 as a result of the rapid expansion of the university. Its predecessor was the Foreign Languages Teaching Section of the Department of Fundamental Courses, which provided English and Japanese courses for non-English major students at different levels. In 1993, the Teaching Section was separated from the Department and became an independent Department of Foreign Languages. In 1996, it merged with the Department of Social Sciences and the Institute of Chinese Agricultural History to become the College of Humanities till July, 2003. The College of Foreign Languages now consists of 6 academic departments, namely, English Department, Japanese Department, College English Department I, College English Department II, Graduate English Department, and Institute of Foreign Language Studies and Linguistics. The College has a staff of 120 people, including 3 professors and 18 associate professors. Its English program began enrolling associate degree students in 1989, and undergradurate students in 1998. In 2004, the English program was divided into 4 programs: Economics and Trade, Translation, E-Commerce, and English Education for undergraduate studies. The total number of the enrolled student in 2005 is 860, and will be increased to 1200 in the near future. Apart from that, the College is providing English and Japanese courses for all non-English major students at different levels in the University. |
